This week, we’re highlighting one of our very own NK Brides, Shereen Becerra, and her husband, Shane! The blissful couple’s wedding was filled with so many meaningful, sentimental elements that you can’t fail to see the adoration they have for each other and their loved ones. Read on to see for yourself and take a look at our original designs!
How They Met
The pair met in 2017 when a mutual friend from school invited both of them to a pickleback bar in Manhattan. They each thought the other was cute, but Shane was a bit shy, and Shereen was hard to read. It took a whole year before they actually started dating, but it was well worth the wait! As a tribute to their mutual friend, the couple asked him to do a reading at the wedding and had his father officiate it. Hats off to you, wingman!
The Rings
The first gift from your fiancé is always the most special…we mean the ring, of course! Shane had Shereen’s friends decorate the couple’s home with romantic candles and flowers for the proposal. When the lovebirds arrived, Shane popped the question while friends and family awaited the celebration on the roof! Shereen was drawn to the ring’s pear cut for its uniqueness and resemblance to her body shape. And we simply can’t overlook her wedding band. The couple designed it to look like a constellation comprising each of their birthstones as well as the gemstone of their wedding month, an enchanting May emerald. Shereen plans to one day add her future kids’ birthstones to her ring collection. So cute!
The Venue
Shereen and Shane have a deep appreciation for the great outdoors. Since they got married in the spring, they wanted their wedding to reflect this lively time of year with vibrant wildflowers and a seasonal menu. As an added touch, they gifted guests with a custom matchbox printed with a signature logo designed by Shane himself and a rose-scented candle to keep everyone grounded in the theme. Perfect for the season of new beginnings!
The couple got married this May at Canfield Casino in Saratoga Springs. They spent a lot of time at Congress Park, within walking distance of the casino. They had always admired the beauty and history of the landmark with its in-house museum and stunning stained glass windows. I mean, who wouldn’t want to tie the knot there? Access to an outdoor area gave them the element of nature that was so important to them with the charming background of the building. “It’s an institution that’s always going to be here,” Shereen said. Just like she and Shane will be for each other!
The Wedding Look
The Inspiration
Classic, dreamy, and ethereal are the first words that came to mind when Shereen envisioned her wedding look. No fancy frill or giant puffs, just a timeless quality evocative of an 80s romance book cover. Stand aside, Fabio. Shane’s the leading man in this love story!
Finding clothes that fit properly can be a hassle as it is, so when it comes to the most special dress you’ll ever wear, why settle for anything less than perfect? Knowing that it’d be difficult to find one that fit her petite frame, Shereen was reluctant to shop off the rack. The custom route was calling her name! A quick search of bridal boutiques in the area was all it took for her to come across NK Bride. After scrolling through our Instagram page, Shereen knew that she had found her place. What struck her the most was that every one of Nathalie’s creations is completely different, showing Shereen that “she [Nathalie] knew exactly how to make a dress based on what other people wanted.”
The Process
When it came to the creating process, Shereen knew that with her ideas and Nathalie’s expertise, they would come up with the look of her dreams. With a bodice and sleek, long skirt for the ceremony, it’s evident that Shereen values versatility and ease. She met with our wonderful NKB designer to collaborate on the sketches and designs, noting that Nathalie was always there to give her guidance and was “super great” to work with! In fact, Shereen will be working with Nathalie again to have her skirt repurposed for other occasions. Stylish and sustainable. Love to see it!
Shereen wanted the simple silhouette to accentuate her favorite features, elegantly represented in the high slit and sweetheart neckline with off-the-shoulder sleeves. What she didn’t realize at the time was that she chose a style reminiscent of many Disney princesses. We see you, real-life Princess Jasmine!
Pretty and practical can go hand in hand these days, which is why Shereen asked for a wristlet attached to her skirt, so she could move freely and control the flow of the fabric. Nathalie was happy to oblige and created this innovative piece. Since Nathalie always builds her garments to the bride’s body, there was never a doubt that the ensemble would fit like a glove. As Shereen said, “A body can change in a year,” so Nathalie’s method is the way to go!
The Veil
Shereen chose a gorgeous veil with dainty crystal accents to add a shimmery pop to her look. But there were two other veils in the wedding that held great significance. Draped over the chuppah were wedding veils belonging to her maternal grandmother and mother-in-law. A sweet and touching gesture to say the least. She hopes that one day, her future children will incorporate her veil into their weddings too. We hope that for you too, Shereen!
The Bridal Party
Gone are the days of dressing your bridesmaids in the ugliest dresses you can find…thank God. All Shereen wanted was for her bridal party to feel comfortable and beautiful, so after receiving a “shades of beige” color scheme, her friends were free to choose the style and hue of their attire. We think they did an amazing job, and so did the bride! “It was really pretty as a unit because it had some variety, but it was also uniform,” she told us. And let’s not forget about the bridesman in the bunch! He had the option of wearing a navy suit like the groomsmen but went with a beige tone to match the ladies. He was a member of the bridal party, after all, and he wanted everyone to know it. Loyal friends for the win!
The Nails
A whole category for nails? When they look this incredible, they deserve the spotlight! Shereen enlisted her talented friend to give her a sophisticated nude manicure with asters and daisies, her and Shane’s birth flowers. A lovely ode to their love and their theme. Of course, we all know about the time-old tradition of wearing something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue, but we’ve never seen a “something blue” quite like Shereen’s! Under the nails of her middle fingers lie two evil eyes for added protection…and a big “F U” to the evil spirits. Nothing we love more than a badass bride!
The Memory Book
If you’re looking for the perfect wedding gift for a special couple, look no further. Shereen’s sister nailed it! She sent both Shane and Shereen the same questions to answer about each other and compiled them into separate booklets for them to cherish. “What’s the best thing about being together?” and “What do you love about her/him?” are just a few of the included questions that everyone would love to know the answers to. As Shereen remarked, “These are things we can always look back and reflect on together.” We could all use a heartfelt reminder from time to time!
The Best Part
When asked what her favorite part of the wedding was, the sincerity in Shereen’s voice was palpable when she answered, “Definitely the ceremony.” The Becerras wrote their own vows, so “being able to hear the words and say them to each other in front of all the people we love and [doing so] in nature is something I will never forget,” she reminisced. In fact, the couple still recites their vows to each other at times, using them as words of encouragement when they’re down. I mean, is this relationship goals or what? This is what a wedding is truly about.
Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Becerra! We at NK Bride wish you a lifetime of health and happiness together. <3
